"Cha-Ching" or "Scooter"

Can you believe it? I am back the next day writing again! Well, I have a better story this time. Last Wednesday, a week ago today, Cameron told me that he'd seen a "kitty" earlier that day at school (same place as church). Upon arriving to Wednesday night service, Cameron pulled me over to the place where he'd seen this kitten. The little dirty white kitty lay right where he'd seen him earlier. He barely lifted his head in response to the crowd gathering around him. He'd been laying there in the hot sun (high 90's and 100% humidity) all day without water or food. This started the whole story.....I am tempted to name him "Cha-Ching" because that's what's going on!!! However, I think we will call him "Scooter," for that's what he does. Apparently, he was hit by a car which resulted in his broken left leg. One of the mothers at the school had seen a car come to a halt in the middle of the road and a bunch of locals got out of the car and quickly whisked the kitten out of the road and layed him on the side of the church/school, in the hot sun, I might add! I scooped him up not knowing his current predictment and put him in a box out of the sun til after church. When we were finished with services, I found that he had managed to get out of the box, he'd looked so weak earlier. He didn't venture far and that's when we realized he was dragging his back legs, hence the name, "Scooter". Although we are strictly forbidden to have pets at our apartment.....I couldn't leave him there to die. He was severely dehydrated, dragging his back legs, and was dirty with goopy eyes. No one else volunteered, so......What was I supposed to do? We actually tried to leave him at the local vet with the information that we couldn't keep him and that he was a stray. That didn't work, so we reluctantly (excitedly) took him home. He ate some spam that I offered him, but refused to drink any liquid, so we forced some water down with a syringe. I half expected to find that he had passed in the night, but the opposite is true. He was a little more alert and gave a little weak "Meow". He was slowly stealing my heart!! We babied him all day and finally gave in and took him to the vet on Friday, for he was recovering from the heat and dehydration and needed some surgical intervention. The veternarian was put in a tight spot regarding treatment, after looking at the xrays. Thankfully, his left leg was the only thing broken, however, he dragged his right leg as if it didn't exist. We told the vet we couldn't keep him and therefore didn't really want to dump a lot of money into this kitty, but we couldn't bear to see him go on like this. He'd die out on the street, he could barely get himself to the plate of food we held out to him. The vet (a Christian!) agreed to do surgery and gave us 50% off the surgery/animal hospital fees! We picked up our "baby" yesterday and he was all clean and white with a shaved left leg. He earned himself two pins in to his left leg, but his right leg is still just dragging behind. We are worried that he will not find a home due to this deformity. The vet thinks this will heal with some time as there weren't any obvious injuries to the spine, vertebrae, or right leg. In this case, we're not sure if he was crippled prior to the accident, which then allowed for him to be hit, or if the accident injured some nerves....only time will tell and heal! $200 later, he's in our possession to be nursed back to health, we'd love to keep him, he's like a new toy in our house! He's very loveable and playful, you'd never know he had any problems, til he decided to sit up or walk. I think I will be doing some kitty physical therapy!!! I think I will have to rig up a splint for the limp right leg once his left surgical leg has healed. He's our baby and we love him already, if we can't find a home for him......... well, what are we supposed to do? KEEP IT A SECRET AND KEEP HIM!

  1. I think "cha-ching" def fits him...well he could have both and one is a last name. haha I just recently read an article about a lady adopting a crippled kitty who couldn't walk and eventually DID walk and run because the lady simply pampered him and kept him healthy! He was healed with TLC! :) I would've picked the poor thing up too. Kudos to you!
